Orientation & Mobility Specialist

Our Orientation and Mobility Specialist in Phoenix and the surrounding area is responsible for providing training and support to adults with visual impairments, helping them develop the skills necessary for safe and independent travel. This role involves assessing clients' abilities, creating individualized mobility plans, and teaching techniques for navigating various environments.

Key Responsibilities
• Assess clients' orientation and mobility needs through comprehensive evaluations.
• Develop and implement individualized mobility training programs tailored to each client's unique abilities and goals.
• Teach clients how to use mobility aids (e.g., canes, GPS devices) and develop spatial awareness skills.
• Provide instruction on safe navigation in various environments, including residential, community, and public spaces.
• Collaborate with other professionals (e.g., teachers, rehabilitation counselors) to support clients’ overall development.
• Conduct workshops and training sessions for families and caregivers on how to assist clients effectively.
• Stay updated on best practices and advancements in orientation and mobility techniques.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in orientation and mobility, special education, rehabilitation, or a related field.
• Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) or (NOMS)
• Experience working with adult with visual impairments and/or adults with combined vision and hearing loss.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to develop creative teaching methods to engage clients effectively.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to various locations for client training.
