The State of Connecticut Department of Aging and Disability Services (ADS), Bureau of Education and Services for the Blind (BESB) is hiring three Teachers of the Visually Impaired (Education Consultant 1) to provide specialized instruction and consultation for students who are blind or have low vision.

We have one opening in each location:
- Norwalk (Fairfield County) – Coastal city life, easy NYC access
- Litchfield (Litchfield County) – Historic charm, scenic countryside
- Tolland (Tolland County) – Suburban community, near Hartford & UConn

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Teach Braille, assistive technology, and the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC)
- Adapt educational content for accessibility
- Collaborate with families, schools, and service providers
- Travel statewide to support students in homes and schools

POSITION DETAILS:
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–4:15 PM (35 hrs/week)
- Work Environment: Hybrid with statewide travel

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience teaching assistive technology equipment to students who are blind or visually impaired
- Experience teaching the Expanded Core Curriculum to students who are blind or visually impaired
- Experience teaching Braille to students who are blind or visually impaired
- Experience adapting curriculum for students who are blind or visually impaired

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
1. A Bachelor's degree with at least twelve (12) semester hours in courses applicable to the blind or partially-sighted.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Possession of a certificate in special education in the area of teaching the blind or partially-sighted issued by the State Board of Education
OR
2. Eligibility for a durational shortage area permit (DSAP) or possession of a DSAP. (If you meet the Minimum Qualification - General Experience above, please consider yourself as being eligible for a DSAP)
