TEACHER of the VISUALLY IMPAIRED- Full Time

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Demonstrate common teaching competencies as defined by the Department of Education.

2. Conduct student screenings and comprehensive evaluations related to the student’s visual access to the educational environment including interpreting and clearly communicating results and recommendations

3. Design, utilize, and implement  interventions based on established best practices and documented research-based evidence 

4. Intervene in in the least restrictive environment to support student participation and achievements, as appropriate

5. Evaluate and modify individual student interventions as necessary to address student needs and access to the educational environment and curriculum

6. Report progress related to annual goals and objectives, and make appropriate modifications to interventions as needed

7. Implement various models of school-based service delivery such as Response to Intervention (RTI), consultation, group and individual services

8. Work effectively with diverse student populations

9. Ensure that curriculum frameworks set forth by Collaborative and DOE are met and integrated into the students’ IEP.

10. Coordinate with all specialists (OT, PT, Teachers, Behavior, SLP, Adaptive PE, Assistive Technology Team) to provide a comprehensive service delivery program for each child.

11. Provide training and consultation for staff and families regarding TVI services and interventions

12. Maintain accurate, timely documentation of TVI services

13. Caseload assignment is based on SSEC needs, and may change at any time including location of service delivery (which may include, but is not limited to school, community, and/or home settings).

14. Follow direction of program director/coordinator/principal where assigned including procedures and protocol

15. Schedule and prioritize assigned caseload

16. manage and/or lift students when necessary.

17. Participate in all required in-service training

18. Assist the Program Director in the intake of a student referral and the transition of a student from the program.

19. Follow all policies and procedures as established by the South Shore Educational Collaborative

20. Use de-escalation and physical management procedures as prescribed in SSEC approved management training programs when appropriate with students.

21. Follow protective management procedures at all times when working with students as prescribed in SSEC approved physical management training programs.

22. Use appropriate physical techniques when lifting and/or moving students as prescribed in SSEC approved physical management training programs.

23. Consistent work attendance which includes; arriving to work on time each day, working the entire day and notifying the program director/coordinator a minimum of 24 hours in advance for a personal day whenever possible.

24. Maintain confidentiality regarding information for all SSEC staff, students and their families.

25. Perform other duties as may from time to time be assigned by the program director/coordinator.

Mandatory participation in all of the following SSEC sponsored trainings to include but not limited to:

1. Successful completion of SSEC-approved physical management training, full and/or recertification annually as appropriate.
2. Maintain active CPR/First Aid certification.
3. Successful completion of all SSEC approved threat assessment training.
4. Successful completion of required training hours for 7D licensure if requested by the program director/coordinator.

REPORTS TO: Program Director/Coordinator and/ or designee

WORK YEAR: School Year (183 days includes 2 professional days )

Qualifications

Teacher of the Visually Impaired DESE license and endorsement as required by the applicable SSEC program. Must be able and willing to physically manage and/or lift students.

Preferred: Experience working with students in a school setting with academic, behavioral and/or emotional challenges, learning or developmental disabilities or autism preferred
